Simunye Kids

2008-06-17

Children and adults came together in joy at Kloof Harvest Church on Saturday. Music, good cheer and plain good fun was the order of the day as the Simunye Kids CD and DVD, Come Together, was launched.

Celebrating the cultural diversity in our country, the CD has children’s songs mainly in English but also Zulu, Afrikaans, Hindi, Swahili and French.

Lindy van der Meulen, worship co-ordinator of westville Christian Fellowship came up with the idea, due to the lack of relevant, multicultural children’s music for enjoyment at home, school and church.

Last year, writing of songs, poems and chants began to gather speed with church members giving valuable time to choreograph dance moves and steps, while the children’s choir gave up some its December holiday to practice and lay down the first tracks of the album.

Dancing, acting and music practices became the norm and, thanks to all this dedication and belief in the project, a special filming day was put together on 31 March this year.
For many of the children involved, it was a day they would never forget.

Sesalos, gave the project its full backing and in October last year, recording started. That in itself was an experience as the fun, simple songs saw children, parents and teachers making the end product something to be proud of.
Saturday’s launch continued the trend with all who attended having a blast. The workshop was a great success, teachers and parents left feeling inspired and informed and the children had great fun learning the new songs, their actions and languages.
